A type of device in the material handling industry which could be utilized to lift and move loads from one location to another is called a forklift. Every part of a forklift has a particular function. Different parts could be utilized to transport the load either horizontally or vertically.

Mast
The parts used to lift and lower the load is called the forklift mast. There are different types of masts for raising loads to different heights: triplex, quad, simplex and duplex.

Power Supply
There are four different ways you can power a forklift: electric, gas, propane and diesel. The battery is located within the cab beneath the seat. The propane tank is located on the rear of the truck. The fuel tank on diesel and gas forklifts is underneath the rear of the truck.

Cab
Situated within the center of the truck is the forklift cab. This is where the operator sits and accesses all the controls and informational gauges. The gas pedal, steering wheel, lifting controls, tilting controls and brake are all located inside the cab.

Frame
The truck frame carries all the biggest components of the forklift, including the counterweights, that are located at the rear in order to prevent the truck from tipping when loaded. The frame includes the overhead guard which protects the operator. The undercarriage holds the wheels, driveshaft and axles.
