Forklift Tires
There are two kinds of tires which can be utilized on forklifts: press on and standard. Typically, press on tires are utilized on electric forklifts and those types of forklifts operating in indoor applications like warehouses. The press on tires may also be utilized in light industrial application too.
Surfaces that are uneven or rough need tougher tires and more traction. Hence, standard tires are usually utilized. Nevertheless, they are generally utilized on forklifts that operate in outdoor environment.
There are lots of various kinds of forklift tires just as there are lots of various types of forklifts. The types of tires that are most commonly used are solid, polyurethane and pneumatic. The kind of tires are dictated by where and what the forklift is used for. It is very essential to get the correct tires for the task and ensuring the correct choice will have a big effect on both performance and safety.
For outdoor forklifts which have to operate in an all-terrain environment like on a construction site, the best alternative would be pneumatic tires. These are constructed out of tough rubber and then filled with air, similar to a tractor or truck tire. Pneumatic tires create an air cushion between the terrain and the forklift itself. This design significantly lessens the wear and tear on the machine and creates a really comfortable ride for the operator. The thick, deep treads on the tires give the necessary traction required for use on surfaces which are rough and uneven.
For light industrial applications, both indoors and outdoors, solid tires are best. They are made out of tough, constructed solid rubber. This helps them to stay safer from blowouts, popping like pneumatic tires or damage due to puncture wounds. Since these tires are not filled with air, they can not provide the cushion effect. This fact makes them unsuitable for use on rough terrain. Some solid tires are constructed with holes in the sidewalls to provide a somewhat softer ride. The only problem is that this kind of construction makes the forklift's load carrying capacity less.
The polyurethane forklift tires will usually outlast both of the rubber tire designs but are intended for indoor warehouse applications only. The load capacity of polyurethane is a lot higher compared to a rubber tire. These tires work great with well with electric forklifts due to the additional weight of the machine's batteries. Due to the lower rolling resistance of the tires, one more advantage of this kind of tire is the longer battery life.
