Inventor Jerome Case established the business of CASE in Racine, when he began the construction of threshing equipment. Later the company gained recognition internationally as the first builder of steam engines for its agricultural application. Eventually, the business grew to become the world's largest maker of steam engines.
By 1912, Case had become established in the construction equipment business. The quickly started to make road building machines like graders and steam rollers. Case grew their construction machinery company through various acquisitions, starting with the American Tractor Corporation in 1957. Case had expanded their business by the mid-1990s to become the top producer of medium-sized to light-sized construction machines.
In the year 1999, Case merged with New Holland to become CNH Global. This corporation became responsible for marketing several of the leading brands of construction and agricultural equipment in the world.
