History
Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started in the year 1919. The company was initially founded by an engineer Anton Raky. Raky was a pioneer in modern drilling and oil drilling technology. The company's first name was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
In 1937, the cornerstone for SMAG was laid when the manufacturing facility was obtained by the Salzgitter Group for making drilling machines. In the year 1986, the company bought the grab product division from Peiner AG. Soon after, Peiner was developed into an international brand in the succeeding years.
